Portugal and Kongo were connected by the trade of enslaved prisoners. A had a good relationship with B and, B had a good relationship with A. After kongo would bring the slaves to Portugal, they would ship the people across seas. This all stoped when the Portuguses started ensalving/taking the Kongolese people. This lead to the king of Kongo getting involved which got hime killed. Now place B (Kongo) had a bad relationship with A (Portugal). This lead to a big conflict between the two places. This ended the enslave sale between Portugal and Kongo. Again the Portugese killed the Kongolese king and this time they replaced him. Kongoleses were not happy about this so they and they started to riote. After this the trade/communication ended for good.
I think the lines on the map explain where they were taking the enslaved people. The wider the lines probably the more that route was traveled.
