What are Prime Numbers ?

Example:

1*5=5 with No other factors that go into 5

so five is a prime number

Prime Numbers are numbers that are only divisible by 1 and itself.

Composite

Numbers

What are composite numbers?

Composite-a positive integer that can be formed by multiplying two smaller positive integers.

Example:

1*8=8 AND 2*4=8

so eight is a composite number

Divisibility Rules

Prime Factorization

Prime Factorization is finding what prime numbers multiply together to get back to the original, larger number.

Factorization

Greatest Common Factor/Divisor

GCF(Greatest Common Factor) or GCD(Greatest Common Divisor) is the largest possible number that can divide into two or more integers.

GCF/ GCD

and

LCM

Least Common Multiple

Least Common Multiple is the lowest common multiple of two or more integers.

10/1/19 Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Even: A number that can be divided by 2 with NO remainder

Odd: A number that when divided by 2 has a remainder

Factor: numbers being multiplied together

Multiple: the result of multiplying a whole number by a whole number

Divisor: number used to divide or a number that divides evenly into another number

Divisible: when a number can be divided by a number with NO remainder.

Fractions into Decimals

Denominator goes on the outside of the bar

Numerator goes on the inside of the bar

Decimals

Multiplying Integers

number line model: groupings to get both numbers that you need will get you to the answer

ex: 3x4= 12

Multiplying

Integers

chip/charged field model:involves creating groups of negative and positive chips to then cancel out, then your answer is the remaining chips left

Dividing Integers

how does it relate to multiplication?

Dividing

Integers

while multiplication and division have the same rules when it comes to positive and negative integers, they are still different.

we turn to the same technique with fractions into whole numbers.

just like we put the numerator in the bar and the denominator outside the bar, we move the first value in the bar and second value outside the bar.

A square number, or a perfect square, is the product of two integers that are the same

Opposites

absolute value:for any number, the distance away from zero

opposites: numbers that are on the equivalent opposite sides of the number line.
