Arthur Miller was born the 17 of October of 1915 in New York (U.S.A) and died the 10 of February of 2005 in Roxbury, Connecticut (U.S.A). He was an important american playwright.

Arthur Miller spent his childhood playing with his older brother and going to Hebrew school. When he was fourteen years old he moved with his family to Brooklyn. He worked to save money for a college at an automobile warehouse. Then he attend in the University of Michigan where he started to write plays.

He wrote lot of plays and books about tragedy and the second world war. Such us: The Death of a Salesman,The price, All were my children, After the fall, No villain and the most important The crucible (Las brujas de Salem o El crisol).

This story is about witches. It takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Salem was a town where the people were Puritans and really strict. You would be arrested for acting at strange or different. There were lot of things were considered witchy things, singing some songs or anything that didn’t fit in with the typical way of life. The play is about hunting for witches, but it’s also about being chased down for being your own person. Arthur Miller wrote this during the 1950’s. The big action in this book is witch-hunting. Keep in mind that when the book was written there was a big hunt in the USA for people who were communists. Arthur Miller was involved with some commies. So he wrote this book about being hunted down for whatever it is you believe or do.
