Establish a Plot Circle for a movie/novel you know, point out at least 3 archetypal characters of that movie/novel in your notebook.
Standard plot structure too limited, many events occur in longer stories and movies.

- The message the author/filmmaker is trying to convey to the audience.
How to find a theme:
- Look at the central conflict, which opposing forces win and why?
- Look at the protagonist's journey, how does he/she change throughout the story.
-Character may blatantly say the overall theme somewhere in the novel/movie.
-Make a 3 - 5 paragraph analysis where you summarize and analyze different aspects of your summer reading novel.
