In the indian removal act was signed by Andrew Jackson which basiacally was forcing indian tribes such as the Cherokee tribe to move west. This caused approximately 4,000 deaths on this forced march (a.k.a. The Trail of Tears). Jackson also forced a treaty upon the Creeks destroying their miltary power and making them surrender over 20 mllion acres of their traditional land. This was all part of Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Campaign helping to negotiate nine of the eleven major treaties to remove Indians.
When Andrew Jackson became president in 1828 he had been financially damaged by speculation and a tightening of bank credit early in his business career. They felt that Jackson would not risk losing votes in Pennsylvania and other commercial states by vetoing it. Jackson responded to this by saying to his vice president, Martin Van Buren: “The Bank is trying to kill me, Sir, but I shall kill it!" Jackson's opposition to the Bank became almost an obsession. Accompanied by strong attacks against the Bank in the press, Jackson vetoed the Bank Recharter Bill. This caused an economic contraction at the end of 1833 and into 1834. The bank charter expired in 1836.
Jackson began his ethnic cleansing with the indian removal act, but Jackson didn't only want removal for personal enrichment. He also wanted it as a way to further white supremacy and slavery, and to shore up his Southern support. "While the law Jackson pushed through Congress in 1830, the Indian Removal Act, theoretically only authorized Jackson to negotiate removal with the tribes, Jackson had no interest in making deals. "To him, the practice of dealing with Indian tribes through treaties was 'an absurdity,'" Howe writes; instead he believed "the government should simply impose its will on them.""
Andrew Jackson solved most of his conflicts big or small often with violence such as dueling. Heros don't find violence as the best solution, but for Jackson it is the perfect way to solve problems; which is just one reason why Jackson is more of a villain. Jackson as even killed a man just for accusing him of cheating in a horse race and insulting his wife. It is estimated that the number of duels in which Jackson participated ranged from five to 100.
Andrew Jackson's main impact on our nation was politics and racism. Jacksons controversial conduct in office is the main reason for the democratic party we have today. Andrew Jackson is also responsible for a lot of racism that is still happening today. If it weren't for Jackson forcfully taking land from the indians and making them move out west, our country would be even more diverse than it already is today.
