The World disarmament conference

France has been invaded by twice in 50 years . France wanted to ensure that Germany could no longer be a threat to French economy and french territory. facts and resources

Why did the World Disarmament conference fail ?

Hitler had became Chancellor of Germany in January 1933, and his aim was re-armament. Hitler saw re-armament as a way of regaining Germany’s power and as a way to create jobs to avoid the impact of the great depression. Italy under Mussolini also saw re-armament in this way; and like the Japanese, Mussolini wanted to use his weapons to build an empire. Germany withdrew from the disarmament conference and from the League of Nations itself in 1933.

Without Germany the conference limped on: It was clear that disarmament was not going to happen. The failure of disarmament, therefore, made the League look weak and the re-armament of Germany made the countries around France and the countries to the East, feel very insecure.
