Chlorine

Chlorine

Technical information

Chlorine is a halogen element that is described as a heavy greenish-yellow diatomic gas with a pungent odor and is, used as a bleach, oxidizing agent, and disinfectant in water purification. Chlorine is a non-metal, found in the halogen in family VIIA, which is on the right side of the metalloids and has an atomic number of 17 with a group number of 17 VIIA 7A.

Bohr Diagram

The Bohr Model shows the atom as central neutrons with the electrons in circular orbitals at specific distances from the nucleus. These orbits form electron shells or energy levels, which are a way of visualizing the number of electrons in the various shells.

Chlorine

Chlorine is one of the best chemical elements. It has a density of 2.45 and a half, 1.23 density. The elemental, chlorine is a pale, yellowish-green gas at room temperature.

pictures

The picture shows how chlorine is a greenish-yellow, diatomic, dense gas with a sharp smell ( smell of bleach). Chlorine occurs in nature mainly, like common salt ( NaCl), carnallite [ KMgCl2. 6(H20) ], and sylvite (KCl). In its liquid and solid form, it is powerful bleaching, oxidizing and disinfecting agent.

Flammability

Chemical Properties

An element can ignite or explode, and this is also another chemical property. When hydrogen gas is extremely flammable, and it will ignite readily in the presence of oxygen. Otherwise, magnesium will burn in oxygen; in this exothermic reaction, light and heat are being, giving off as the magnesium and oxygen combine to form magnesium oxide.

Chart

Two Environmental impact of flammability ;

- Air pollution; Air pollution is the presence of substances in the atmosphere that harmful to the health of human beings and other living beings or causes damage to the climate or materials. Liquids and solvents in industrial products give off flammable vapour, which, when mixed with air, can ignite or explode. That causes Air Pollution and endangering many living beings in the world. The fire also releases carbon dioxide, greenhouse gas- into the atmosphere that makes it polluted and dangerous to human beings. The ease by which liquids give off flammable vapours is called Flashpoint

- Many Deaths and injuries; When flammable liquids explode or caught fire, thousands of people can die, and some few people may get injured due to this flammability. Over 50- 80 percent of the population died, and 20- 50 were, injure and taken to the hospital for proper medication. Let's make the world a better place by putting a stop to it. We must eliminate ignition sources ( sparks, smoking, flames, hot surfaces ). When working with flammable and combustible liquids, we use the smallest amount of liquid if necessary in work areas. Keep storage areas cool and dry. Store flammable and combustible liquids away from incompatible materials.
