What Happened?
-Cyrus McCormick invented the horse drawn reaper. It had sharp blades and could cut grain. This invention made it a lot easier for farmers and it made harvesting go faster.
-John Deer invented the steel plow. It could cut through tough soil. This made it easier to plow thick soil.

This was all happening around the 1900s.
Where and Why?
This was all taking place in the West because that was the way the pioneers were moving. The Industrial Revolution was happening.

Why did this happen?
Over the years, there have been more people to feed. Changes had to be made to make sure everyone gets safe, nutritious food. Now, less people actually farm and produce their own food than in the past
-Around 200 years ago,90 percent of the population in the U.S. farmed and produced their own food. Now, only 2 percent of the population do.

Cause: Harvesting was hard work done by hand.
Effect: Cyrus McCormick invented the horse drawn reaper to make it easier.
Cause: The horse drawn reaper was invented.
Effect: It was a lot easier and faster to harvest.
Cause: Pigs started being housed inside.
Effect: There have been a lot less cases of a disease on pigs.
Cause: A lot less people farmed their own food over the years.
Effect: More equipment had to be made.

Before, it took farmers a lot more time and effort to do the jobs around the farm. They also could not feed as many people as our farmers can today.

All the equipment and technology made have made farming easier. It is still hard work, but a lot better than it was years ago. Farmers are able to produce more food. Farming has definitely improved over the years.

Animals have also been raised differently. Things like fans and sand beds are sometimes added to the barns. These things make the animals more comfortable.
