Media Ethics: The 1st Amendment Gone Too Far

Investigator: Lanyia Allen

October 2017

Here's The Issue...

What is "Media Ethics"?

Nowadays, everyone has an opinion and HAS to know the lastest news regarding any and everything. But where is the line crossed when it goes from curiosity to harassment?

Media Ethics - A subdivision of ethics that focuses on the ethical issues/principles of all types of media including broadcast media, journalism and, most infamously, the internet.

"Journalism requires a discipline of mind. It requires a sympathetic understanding of mankind, and also a cold objective analysis of how mankind meets the problem of this age." ~Wes Gallgher (Fromer Correspondent of APA )

Meet the Victims

Meet the Victims

Internet aka "Ingrid" - She just wanted to bring happiness into the world by spreading awareness and newfound information with quickness and ease to your computers and cellular devices.

People of Esteem aka "Non-Local People" - Yes this includes celebrities, but also politicians, athletes and even retired people of the sort.

The Crime Scene

According to the 1st amendment we have a lot of rights given to us. Our main focus being on the "freedom of press" and the ethical issues that follow. We'll look into the misuse and electronic rape of Ingrid (Internet) and the harassment of the Esteem People (Non-Local People).

The Evidence

The Evidence

These crimes have been going on since before Ingrid (Internet) was even born, but we're looking into this now due to new and improved technology. Here's what we've collected thus far:

-Pictures (Either legally obtained or leaked)

-Blogs/Magazines/Newspapers (Mass opinions with Mass Followers)

-Various Social Media Outlets (Weapons)

-Constitution/Bill of Rights (found after some deep digging)

Suspects Apprehended

Suspects

On Oct. 30th at 9:45pm, officers of the LAPD (Lanyia Allen Police Department) took one suspect and an it's accomplice into custody for questioning. No further charges or details have been released as of yet.

So, we brought in our prime suspect(s) to the precinct for questioning; Paparazzi, street name Creepy Crawlers, Mosquitos w/ Cameras, "Journalists". Their accomplices people, street name humans, aka Y'ALL!!

We even caught their whistler close by Falcon, steet name "No-No", aka the 1st amendment.

Where Things Got Interesting...

Where Things Got Interesting...

As we began to question the Creepy Crawlers, we showed them our evidence. We showed them countless pictures, videos, and media outlets that post their work. That's when I asked "Are you REALLY a journalist? Because I have a video that would prove otherwise".

The Legalities

With every case comes legalities. We charged the suspects and their little helpers with electronic rape, misuse, stalking and menacing, and harassment; but that still wasn't enough. This is where the law starts to work against us, for the umpteenth time.

My Witnesses

After the video I had them against the wall. The evidence was staggering and I even had witnesses to make my case stronger. I had Andy, street name "Antz", aka 4th amendment and his sister Sasha, street name "Mousy", aka 5th amendment.

Here We Go Again...

After the showing of the video, and using every scare tactic besides force, I thought I had them. Then they just looked me in the eye, smiled, and began to laugh. He then uttered those awful pair of 3 words "freedom of speech" and "freedom of press". I was foiled again by my own legal system, no, by a loophole in my system.

Case Dismissed

Fruit for Thought

We weren't able to press charges since they were protected by the 1st amendment, again. Now the question is where do we go from here?

Some solutions to this problem are:

-Formulating restrictions so that journalists can do their job properly

-Make privacy a right

-Give paparazzi some sort of consequence for being too aggressively invasive

-Respect people's privacy (what if it was you)

-Limitations, limitation, LIMITATIONS!!!
