¿Cuál fue el impacto del descubriento de América?
Cada 12 de Octubre se conmemora el Descubrimiento de América, realizado por Cristóbal Colón en el año 1492. La celebración de este día, involucra a la naciente sociedad moderna europea y sus viajes de exploración, a las civilizaciones originarias de América, y el inicio de un imperio colonial que duraría siglos.
Cristóbal Colón fue el navegante intrépido que con un proyecto arriesgado y un destino que nadie hubiera previsto, descubrió el Nuevo Continente (Espada, 2009).

“Luego que amaneció vinieron a la playa muchos de estos hombres, todos mancebos y todos de buena estatura, gente muy hermosa: los cabellos no crespos, salvo corredios y gruesos, como sedas de caballo, y todos de la frente y cabeza muy ancha más, y los ojos muy hermosos y no pequeños, y ellos ninguno prieto. Las piernas muy derechas, todos a una mano, y no barriga, salvo muy bien hecha. […]
Y yo estaba atento y trabajaba de saber si había oro, y vi que algunos de ellos traían un pedazuelo colgado en un agujero que tienen a la nariz, y por señas pude entender que yendo al Sur o volviendo la isla por el Sur, que estaba allí un rey que tenía grandes vasos de ello, y tenía muy mucho. […] Esto defendiera y no dejara tomar a nadie, salvo que yo lo mandara tomar todo para Vuestras Altezas si hubiera en cantidad. Aquí nace en esta isla, mas por el poco tiempo no pude dar así del todo fe. ”
