Categorical Grants

Grants that the federal government gives to state and local governments to spend on specific programs. These grants also provide federal supersion to make sure that federal money are spent the way congres wants.

Medicaid: Medicad is an example of a categorical grant because the federal government gives a certian amount of money to the states for them.

Food Stamps: Food stamps is an example because the federal government designed to allow people who don't have a high income the ability to buy food.

Formula Grants

A federal grant specifying a precise formula in the legislation creating the program. This include population, amount of tax effort,housing, or rate of infant mortality

An example of a project grant is grants given out by The National Science Foundation to schools and reaeach groups. This is an example of a project grant because the NSF is giving a certian amount of money to these groups for the purpose of them completing scientifc research.

Block grants are a fixed amount of money that the federal government gives to states to provide specific benfits or services. There are three different kinds including; operational, capital, and enitlements.

An example of a Block Grant is the safe streets act of 1968. This was designed to help state a local governments in reducing crime and increase the fairness of law enforcement. Which is a federal government ran funds.

Mandates are Terms or goals set by the national government that the states have to meet. Either funded, unfunded, partially funded, or underfunded.
