The middle of the story
A few days after learning about the contest, Eddie's mom and Annie's dad lose their jobs. With Annie's help writing a poem, Eddie enters the contest and wins the chance to take the shot. Eddie spends a month practicing with Annie's dad as his coach. When Mr. Finkle finds out how well Eddie is doing, he tries to bribe him.
Mr. Finkle tells Eddie that he can't afford for Eddie to make the shot and if he misses the shot he will give Eddie's mom his job back with a raise and also pay for Eddie's colloge. After careful thought and talking to his mom Eddie decides to try and make the shot.
When Eddie turns down Mr. Finkle's offer, strange things begin to happen. For example, Eddie receives mystery letters and phone calls telling him he is going to choke and miss the shot.
The end of the story
Eddie finds out some of his school friends were paid to sabatoge him. They apologize and Eddie accepts their apology but is even more determined to make Mr. Finkle pay.
Eddie and his mom and Annie and her dad fly to New York for the foul shot contest which takes place at Madison Square Garden during the NBA Finals. As Eddie is practicing one last time he finds out his mom and Mr. Stokely are now a couple. At first he is mad but agrees to give Mr. Stokely a shot.
With his eyes closed, Eddie makes the shot. The next day the FDA shuts down Finkle Foods after finding out Finkles cause cancer. Eddie and his mom and Annie and her dad buy out Finkle Foods and form their own company. They rehire all the workers and start making Air Crunchies, a healthy snack Eddie's mom invented.
Beginning of the story
Eddie Ball lives in Jackson, Louisiana with his mother Rebecca Ball. Jackson, Louisiana is a poor town filled with overgrown fields crowded with trailers and small shacks. It is a company town where almost everyone works at Finkle Foods, including Eddie's mom. Finkle Foods makes dessert cakes made of caramel, peanuts and marshmallow rolled in a ball of dough, fried, and then covered with milk chocolate.
About a year ago, Eddie met Annie Stokely whom he calls Annie Oakley because she is such a strong basketball shooter. They form a friendship over their love for basketball and because each has a parent who died (Eddie's dad and Annie's mom). Annie's dad also works for Finkle Foods.
One day after school in October, Eddie learns that Finkle Foods is sponsoring a big contest. One lucky kid gets to shoot a foul shot at the NBA Finals for a chance to win a million dollars. But Eddie cannot enter the contest because his mom works for Finkle Foods.
Problem
The problem in "The Million Dollar Shot" is Eddie can't decide whether to purposely miss the shot and get his mom's job back with a raise and his college expenses paid for or to risk all that for a chance to win a million dollars.
Problem
Solution
Eddie puts a lot of thought into whether to take Mr. Finkle's offer or take the shot. With his mom's advice, Eddie decides to "go for the shot". He will either get a million dollars or nothing.

Main Ideas
"The Million Dollar Shot" is about a once in a lifetime opportunity. Eddie Ball wins a poetry contest which awards him the chance to shoot a foul shot for a million dollars at the NBA finals. Eddie's dad died and his mother was just fired from her job at Finkle Foods, the sponsor of the contest. They are poor and a million dollars would change their lives. But Mr. Finkle tries to bribe Eddie to miss the shot on purpose. When Eddie turns him down, Mr. Finkle starts sabotaging Eddie. This only makes Eddie more determined to sink the shot. Eddie trains hard and makes the shot and wins the million dollars. This allows Eddie and his mom to start a new life.
Rating,
Recommendations, & Opinion of book
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, I would give "The Million Dollar Shot" a 7. I enjoyed the book because I could relate to it. I play basketball and would love the chance to take a million dollar shot. The book provided some good tips for how to properly shoot a foul shot. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys basketball or sports in general. I only wish the book would not have ended where it did. I would like to know more about what happened to Mr. Finkle and if Eddie's company was successful.
