Introduction:
I have chosen to compare coca cola with grand items. Such as a piano and a building in Australia ( Australia square.)
A scientific notation is when we want to write a very big number in a simpler form. A scientific notation is an integer between 1 and 10 multiplied by 10 to the power of something.
For example when we have a number such as 378,000,000 we want to write it as a scientific notation. with this example we would place the decimal point after the first digit (3) and put the rest of the numbers ( excluding the 0's) after the decimal point. Then to find our exponent we need to count out the digits up to the decimal point, our number was 9 digits long meaning the exponent would be 8. We could then write the scientific notation out like this " 3.78 x 10⁸"
coke (liquid) weighs 8oz
when we transfer this to liters we get: 0.236588
This in scientific notation would be 2.36588 x 10⁻²
The weight of 1 yamaha C 3 X PE grand piano is 320kg
A bottle of coke ( 18.8 in height by 5.6 width) weighs 8 ounces ( 0.236588 liter)
320 ÷ 0.236588 = 1352.56226013
This converted into scientific notation is:
1352.56226013 = 1.35256226013 x 10³
I used to different weight and measuring things. ( liters and kg) When I searched it up, it said that they were almost the same but did not give me the difference so my result may not be 100% accurate.
First I had to find the volume of the Australia square. Next I transferred that into liters. Then I googled how many ml was in a 18.8 cm coke bottle with a diameter of 5.6, I then used this information to find out how many liters of coke fit into the volume to fhe australia square.
before I started to figure out the volume I needed to find the height and radius
Then I figured out the volume
This was my answer
this is the height and diameter of my specific coke bottle
I found the mililitres online and converted it into litres
then I divided 100ml by 237ml to figure out how many bottles of coke would fit into 1 litre
I converted this into scientific notation
then I converted this big number ( not scientific notation) into litres.
this number converted into scientific notation is 2.3552520124 x 10⁸
This in scientific notation is 9.93777220442 x 10⁸
Then I divided the building number by the amount of litres in 1 bottle of cola and this is my answer.
when I did the math on two different calculators they both got slightly different results, my answer could me incorrect or they just had more decimal places.
The height of a coke bottle is 18.8cm. In scientific notation this is 1.88 x 10¹
The amount of coke bottles sold per day is 1,900,000,000 this in scientific notation is 1.900000000 x 10⁹
When we multiply 1,900,000,000 by 18.8 we get 357,200,000,00cm
The burj kalifa is 83000cm - in scientific notation this is 8.3000 x 10⁴. If we divide 357,200,000,00 by 83000 this gives us our answer: the amount of coke bottles sold in a day match the height of the burj kahlifa this many times 430361.445783 - this in scientific notation is 4.30361445783 x 10⁵
One of the big limitations is that I dont know how many of the specific type of coke bottles where sold and the number I found could have been for all the types of coke bottles.
I think that overall I was able to find the information I needed sometimes It was hard because what I needed was very specific, but I was able to display a variety of ways that I could compare coca cola
