Intro

Mechanism 1:

Map of Moche Civilization

Mechanism

1

Justification

Justfication

This mechanism is meant to inform the viewer where this civilization was, giving the work geofraphical context. It allows viewers to better understand that this work was created in South America, which differentiates from the work of North America or Central America.

Mechanism 2:

Information about the Lord of Sipán

Mechanism

2

For this part of the exhibit, I would provide information about the Lord of Sipán, who the earspool was found with. Any known biographical information along with scholarly sources detailing the finding of his tomb and it's contents.

Justification

Justification

This mechanism would provide context about the life and death of the owner of the work. It would also give context about the importance of the work, despite the fact that it isn't a "traditional" art form. The owner of a work greatly influences the meaning and purpose of the work.

Mechanism 3:

Exhibit Design

Mechanism

3

While the exhibit wouldn't be a complete walk-through, it would be decorated in turquoise and gold, with patterns evocative of both the work in particlar and also Mochi culture. It would be on a mini Moche pyramid-platform like the tomb itself is.

Justification

Justification

This mechanism would help viewers become immersed in the exhibit, allowing them to better understand both what life looked like for the Lord of Sipán and allow them to connect the work of art with the greater context of the culture it came from.
