Sometimes with controversial figures,
it is hard to tell if the good outweighs the bad. In
John Adams’ c ase, however, after thorough research,
it was evident that he did not have a successful career as a
politician. Imagine living under a president
that would silence his citizens and jail them otherwise. John Ad
ams was a reckless politician that only heard what he
wanted to and violated the constitution several times.
Introduction
John Adams was born in Brain tree, Massachusetts, on October 30, 1735. He was the oldest of three children born to John Adams and Susanna Boylston Adams. His father was a successful farmer officeholder. Adams entered Harvard and received his bachelor's degree in 1755. For about a year he taught school in Worcester, Massachusetts.
John Adams comes in as the vice president to George Washington. He was described as opinionated and blunt. He also regarded the vice presidency as 'the most useless job know to man'. He also had bipolar disorder and violent outbreaks.
John Adams was elected 2nd president of the United States on March 4. He ran as a federalist and had Thomas Jefferson serve under him as vice president.
John Adams went to undeclared war with France that used money and resources. Surely Adams could've worked this out another way, but he decided to jump the gun and go to war. When American ships were captured at sea, Adams paid the bribes as they slowly increased, amounting to a total of ¼ of the government’s money. This money could’ve helped some citizens who needed it, or help with the expansion of America, but it went to the French instead.
In his last moments as president, the night before his successor took office, Adams attempted to appoint as many Federalists as possible into empty positions as justices of the peace. These "midnight judges" were hired in an attempt to keep as many democratic republicans out of the government as soon as Thomas Jefferson took office. This shows how greedy he was with his power.
John Adams died on July 4, 1826, also the fiftieth anniversary of the declaration of independence being adopted. He died of congestive heart failure just hours after his now good friend, Thomas Jefferson.
