TYPES OF COMPUTER

THE POWER SUPPLY

PERSONAL COMPUTERS

It is a type of computer used by only 1 person, so they are affordable for all users.

The first PC was designed in 1974 by a small firm named MITS, the Altair. It used Intel Corporation´s 8080 microprocessor and it weighed more than 27 tons.

MAINFRAMES

They are high-performance computers with large amounts of memory and processors that process billions of calculations and simple transactions in real time. The mainframe is useful for business databases and transaction servers.

Mainframes

Created in the 50s, The Mark I is considered the first mainframe in history, and after it came many more. While Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley began to play on American radio.

SUPERCOMPUTERS

Supercomputers

Supercomputer, any of a class of extremely powerful computers. The term is commonly applied to the fastest high-performance systems available at any given time. Supercomputers can do arithmetic jobs very fast, so they are used for weather forecasting, code-breaking, genetic analysis and other jobs that need many calculations.

In 1960, UNIVAC built the Livermore Atomic Research Computer (LARC), today considered among the first supercomputers, for the US Navy Research and Development Center.

THE POWER SUPPLY

The power supply

A power supply is an electrical device that supplies electric power to an electrical load. The main purpose of a power supply is to convert electric current from a source to the correct voltage, current, and frequency to power the load.

The power supply industry dates back to the early 1920s, when crude devices were first developed to serve as "B" battery eliminators to power radios in both the commercial and consumer markets.
