Topic:

What is the woman searching for in the depths of the lake?

Subject: English

Class: 10th

Sylvia Plath was an American poet, novelist, and short-story writer. She is credited with advancing the genre of confessional poetry and is best known for two of her published collections, The Colossus and Other Poems and Ariel, as well as The Bell Jar, a semi-autobiographical novel published shortly before her death. In her poem The Mirror, what do you think is the woman searching for in the depths of the lake?

The old woman is now searching for her lost identity, her beauty in the depths of the lake. She could not believe that she now has lost her beauty, that is she has turned old. In this short but beloved poem, the narrator is a wall mirror in what is likely a woman's bedroom. The mirror is personified - that is, it is endowed with human traits. It is able to recognize monotony, commenting on the regularity of the wall that it reflects most of the time. Further, while it does not offer moral judgment, it is able to observe and understand its owner (the woman) as she grapples with the reality of aging.

dearest sonnet, the storyteller is a wall mirror in what is likely a lady's room. The mirror is personified - that is, it is invested with human attributes. It can perceive dullness, remarking on the consistency of the divider that it reflects more often than not. Further, while it doesn't offer good judgment, it can watch and comprehend its proprietor (the lady) as she wrestles with the truth of maturing.

This sonnet isn't especially hard to investigate. In spite of the fact that the speaker is a mirror, the subjects are time and appearance. The lady battles with the loss of her magnificence, conceding every day that she is becoming more seasoned. In spite of the fact that the lady once in a while misleads herself with the complimenting "liars" candlelight and evening glow, she persistently comes back to the mirror for reality. The lady needs the mirror to furnish her with a goal, unadulterated impression of self, despite the fact that it is frequently foiling, causing her "tears and a fomentation of hands."
