Whaling is the hunting of whales for their meat, oil, and blubber. Whaling has been a common practice since 3,000 B.C. Now a days there is no need for hunting whales becasue there are other sources of food and whales are endangered. Sadly today, many whales are being hunted commercially killed, killing thousands of them a year.

Manatees are large aquactic mammals that are moslty herbivourous. They are also known as sea cows. Manatees can range from 8 to 13 feet and can weigh from 440 to 1,130 pounds. These hulking manatees are actually endangered and they need help.
Manatees were heavily hunted for in the past because of their meat and blubber. But even still today in the Caribbean and South America they are still hunted.
Prowerboat damage
Manatees rely on seagrass for there diet. Coastal developement such as buildings or structures built along rivers or the coast line destroy seagrass habbits leaving no food for the Manatees.
Sea Turtles are non-mammal reptials that live and nest in subtropical and tropical beaches. Sea turtles can grow up to be as long as four feet and weigh as much as 440 pounds. Sadly all types of Sea Turtles are endangered because of the human impact on them.
A major reason why the Sea Turtle population went down is because of the fishing industry. Many boats every day cast their nets out to catch and then sell their fish on the market. But sometimes other creatures get caught in the net such as Sea Turtles. This results in the fishermen killing the turtle or just leaving them in the net to die.
Sea Turtles can sell for a lot of money on the illegal market causing many people to hunt for them. Sea Turtles are very vaulble for their shells, meat, and eggs. Before the law of making Sea Turtles illegal to hunt, many people hunted Sea Turtles which drastically decreased the population of them.
A simple plastic or balloon in the ocean could kill a Sea Turtle. A Sea Turtle might think a piece of trash in the water is food but there is a high chance of the Sea Turtle choking on it, getting tangled in it, or getting sick from it.
The examples of these sea creatures given in this power point were only 3 out of 2,270 endangered sea creatures. Many innocent sea creatures are dying and suffering today because of the negative human impact we have on them. The main reason why these endangered species should stay alive is because once a species is extinct, it can effect the whole ecosystem around them. It is like a block tower, remove the right block or in this case the keystone species, the whole tower will collapse.
If Whales were extinct it would effect the ocean negetivaly.
- Less ocean plants: This is because Whale feces is like a fertilizer to the plants and gives the plants lots of nutrition
- Less herbivors: Since the plant production has gone down many herbivors die
- Less carnivors: Since most herbivors are prey and there are now less of them, the carnivors will have less prey to eat and many of them will die
Negative outcomes: Since there are less fish in the sea, the fishing industry goes down and lets not forget the Whale watching tourist attractions
Manatees are not even close to a keystone species but if they go extinct they will have a somewhat negative effect on the ocean.
- Less sea grass: Manatees eat mostly sea grass and if they go extinct no one can trim the ocean floor. This is important because sea grass needs to stay short in order to stay healthy
- Less Sharks, Crocodiles, and Alligators: This is because they are predators of the Manatee
-Less fish: Manatees sometimes have moss or sea debris on their back but fish will eat the debris off benefitting both the manatee and fish (this is called Symbiosis)
Negative Outcomes (on humans): No one likes too much yucky sea grass and you heard less fish, that means bye bye fish industry!
If Sea Turtles go extinct many sea creatures will die.
- Less sea grass and seaweed: Sea Turtles mostly eat sea grass but if they are extinct the sea grass wont get trimmed and they will eventually die
- Less sea creatures: sea grasses are homes to many sea creatures and when the sea grass is all sick and dead the sea creatures loose there habbitat and die
- Less predators (Bigger fish): since all the little sea creatures are dead the predators have nothing to eat and they die
Negative Outcomes (on humans): The fishing industry goes down and the ocean becomes alot emptier
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!!
