ENROLMENT PLANNING WORKSHOP

Understanding

your degree

requirements

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Go to https://calendars.students.yorku.ca/ and look up your Glendon program academic calendar to view the degree requirements.

There are five main requirements:

1. Major credits

2. General Education

3. Bilingual Requirement

4. Upper-level credits

5. Credits Outside the Major

Print the Enrolment Planning Worksheet to begin.

STEP 1

STEP 1: LIST YOUR CURRENT COURSES

Write your current courses and total number of credits in the table as indicated in the sample worksheet.

STEP 2

STEP 2: Major Credits

See sample worksheet.

1. Indicate number of credits required;

2. Indicate number of credits you're enrolled in as well as your current courses;

3. Calculate the credits remaining and list your remaining courses.

STEP 3: GENERAL EDUCATION

1. Identify the general education courses you're currently enrolled in and write down the corresponding number of credits;

2. Indicate the credits remaining in each General Education category.

General Education categories

Choose three from the four below:

  • 6 credits Humanities (HUMA)
  • 6 credits Modes of Reasoning (MODR)
  • 6 credits Natural Science (NATS)
  • 6 credits Social Science (SOSC)

STEP 4

STEP 4: BILINGUAL REQUIREMENT

1. Check off the applicable course in each language;

2. Indicate your remaining

credits and courses

(if applicable).

STEP 5

STEP 5: UPPER-LEVEL CREDITS

1. Identify the number of upper-level credits required in your major(s)/minor/certificate;

2. Indicate the number of guaranteed credits at 3000 and 4000-levels;

3. Write the number of credits remaining at the upper-level outside of your major(s)/minor/certificate.

STEP 6: CREDITS OUTSIDE THE MAJOR

  • Courses used to fulfill minimum general education requirements do not satisfy the Credits Outside the Major.

  • This requirement is not applicable to Major/Minor and Double Major programs.

  • Courses taken in French as a second language (i.e. FSL courses), in pre-specialization French Studies courses (i.e. FRAN at 1000-level) or in English as a second language (i.e. ENSL courses) may be used to satisfy the Credits Outside the Major.

STEP 6: CREDITS OUTSIDE THE MAJOR

1. Identify the course(s) that would be considered outside your major and write it down on your worksheet;

2. Calculate the remaining credits and indicate any future courses

that would satisfy this requirement

(e.g. FSL, ENSL, FRAN at 1000-level).

This will help you make informed choices in your course selection.

2. Write down the remaining credits in each requirement.

TIPS:

TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR COURSES FOR SUMMER AND/OR FALL/WINTER

  • Normally 12+ credits in your major is recommended;
  • You should be completing credits in each requirement each year;
  • If you have completed >24 credits, you should start taking 3000-level courses;
  • You could take some courses in Summer.

Let your advisor know if you're interested.

REPORT OF FINAL GRADES

At the end of the academic session, you must check your report of final grades to see how you did in your courses. You will also see your academic decision which will confirm if you are eligibile to continue your

studies at York.

WHEN CAN I ENROL IN SUMMER AND/OR FALL/WINTER COURSES?

Check your enrolment access time online by logging in to your Passport York account.

The lecture schedule for Summer courses will be available in February and Fall/Winter courses in April/May.
