Lesson 3/Chem 025
Chemistry for Engineers
Presented by:
Elenita G. Cuenca, PhD.
1. Use the Periodic Table to predict electron configuration
2. Identify the types of Chemical bonds between elements or atoms
1. Atomic size increases as atomic number increases.
2. Metallic characteristics increases as atomic number increases.
3. Ionization energy and electronegativity decreases as atomic number increases.
4. Electropositivity increases as atomic number increases.
5. Electron affinity decreases as atomic number increases.
1. Metallic Character- tendency to lose electron during chemical reaction
2. Ionization Energy- energy required to remove electron
3. Electropositivity - tendency to give up or remove electrons
4. Electronegativity - attarct electrons from other atoms
5. Electron Affinity- accepts electron
