Focus

How can language overcome limitations?

Reading and using language allows people to expand their imagination and open their minds. When the mind is open, one finally recognizes the issue, and has the power to change it. Independent ideas and solutions help one to find solutions to overcome obstacles and limitations.

Techniques

Logos

Audience

Repetition-

The repetition of the words ( " imagination", "mindless", "norms", "individualtiy", "creativity"...) emphasize their importance in either acting or fighting against censorship.

Symbolism-

The bat symbolizes forcing censorship upon people

The blindfold is the primary symbol of censorship/ regulation

Paradox-

The words on the bat are supposedly making the individual "happy", but are really draining the seeds of happiness out

Purpose

The visual is intended for everyone, but aimed for those who think independently. It displays how the mind can begin to accept the ideas which it is fed. Because of this willingness, the ideas that once characterized individuals are chased out.

This visual is meant to show the effects of censorship on a person's individual creativity and thoughts. Censorship takes away individualism and curiousity, leading people to become ignorant and unaffected by issues in their environment.

The logic in the visual lies in the words. In the visual, negative words and ideas are being "beaten" into the individual, leaving no room for creative, positive ideas.

Negative words which replace positive ideas:

Entertainment- Creativity

Gossip- Opinion

Unquestioning- Curiosity

Norms- Individuality

Ethos

Intentions

This visual, though not made by a professional source, is a very realistic portrayal of censorship.

Reality Visual

Pathos

The visual is intended to show how creativity and independent thought is stunted through regulation of thought. When a person is not allowed to think freely, their imagination is stifled and independent ideas are drained out. Because of this, they lack enthusiasm to reform areas of society. This is often the intention of those who censor.

-use of media to regulate what is seen/heard - the blindfold

-repetition of censored ideas/brainwashing - the bat with mindless words on it

- loss of original ideas and individuality - candy wrapped in forms of expression

Composition Factors

This visual uses pathos in the way it makes people feel attacked by censorship. People don't want to have their individual thoughts "beaten" out of them, which makes them emotionally compelled to fight censorship.

An obvious part of the visual is the blindfold and the bat.

The blindfold- regulates what is seen and experienced by the individual

The bat- makes the individual conform to society

Less obvious parts of the visual include the candy, and the words written on the candy/bat.

The candy- represents positive being replaced with negative

The words on the candy- show truth and unstifled expression of emotions

The words on the bat- mindless, negative words that have only the purpose of destroying the original good of the individual.
