Trans-Cultural Diffusion

-The dominant culture dictates the culture.

-It legitimizes the economic power, justifies the current political system and current relations.

-It is being internalized by the people consciously and unconsciously.

CRITIQUE

It is difficult to point that innovation had a single starting point because several inventions or cultural ideas must have evolved or developed independently from each other.

The theory can be both a tool for subjugation and freedom.

Not all innovations can create a positive change to the lives of the people.

Theory of Diffusionism

Diffusion of Innovation

historically focused on the spread of an idea, procedure, or implement within a single social group or between multiple groups. For the most part, scholars of this tradition define diffusion as the process through which some innovation is communicated within a social system. Also important is the notion of a time dimension reflecting the rate of diffusion, and the importance of the individual adopter (or non-adopter) reflecting the role of social influence.

RECOMMENDATION

Since all individuals are agents of diffusion, people and other organizations should try to diffuse ideas that are tailored or appropriate in their area.

The theory should try to focus more on innovation of ideas…better perspectives.

Develop further our infrastructure and domestic products—appreciate our entrepreneurs.

DIFFUSIONISM

Diffusionism as an anthropological school of thought, was an attempt to understand the nature of culture in terms of the origin of culture traits and their spread from one society to another

DIFFUSION

Is a process by which an innovation is spread.

It involves the identification of a source or origin.

Diffusion may be simply defined as the spread of a cultural item from its place of origin to other places (Titiev 1959:446).

It can also be defined as the process by which discrete culture traits are transferred from one society to another, through migration, trade, war, or other contact (Winthrop 1991:82).
