UNC Pembroke was called Croaton Normal School in 1887 and in 1911 it was changed again to the Indian Normal School of Robeson County. It was changed in 1913 to the Cherokee Indian Normal School of Robeson County. In 1969 it was renamed to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
