Captain Cox helped Booth escape by hiding him on his land. He told them to lay in the brush and wait for Thomas Jones to arrive to take them across the Potomac river.
Thomas Jones was a Confederate soldier who helped Booth cross the Potomac river. He got him a boat, food, water, and magazines to help Booth survive and helped keep him entertained.

Dr. Mudd helped John Wilkes Booth escape by making him crutches to help with a broken leg and feed him. He was part of his original kidnapping plot.
John Wilkes Booth was a Virginia born actor who was very Confederate. He despised President Lincoln for abolishing slavery. Originally, he wanted to kidnap Lincoln to help the Confederate cause, but he decided to assassinate him.
