In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin. Ender is drafted to report at Battle School for rigorous military training. Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in a community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry, immense pressure from the teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. Is Ender the general Earth needs? He has the abilities to remake a world. But only if Ender can put a stop to the bugger threat, and save humanity.
We believe that the best part in Ender’s Game was when Ender was in charge of Dragon Army and the men in charge of Battle School kept changing the rules of the simulation to try to best Ender. It was the best part in the book because it showed how Ender responds to adversity and how he leads in difficult times. “Almost thirty of his soldiers were new, straight out of their launch group, completely inexperienced in battle.... Almost none of them knew how to establish a direct line to the target…” (Card, 283-284). This shows that the group that Ender was placed in charge of was very ill-fit for any type of battle simulation, yet Ender was able to turn them into a battle hardened army ready for anything.

Our Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. One reason we gave this book this rating is because of its originality. There aren’t many if any books that combine the strategies of war with space. Especially since it focuses on younger kids rather than a traditional age for a soldier (18+). Another reason we gave this book this rating is because of the dynamic main character, Ender. He started out as childish boy who had almost no leadership qualities and grew to be a commanding leader.
Who? I would recommend this book for high school guys because it has lots of action, the strategy of war, and takes place in space. Which are all things high school guys tend to like. It’s not a difficult book to read and doesn’t have any boring parts during the story.
Potential Fans? Fans of books like Harry Potter or Hunger Games would probably enjoy this book because they are in the same genre. Also, because of the interesting perspectives on human interaction that all these books offer.
Film Comparison? Ender’s Game is one of the few books that has been made into a movie that is just as captivating as the original book. We would also rate the movie 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
