The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in the United States. The bridge links Manhattan with Brooklyn over the East River. It was built by John Augustus Roebling. Once he died, his son, Washington A. Roebling took over this tremendous project along with his mother who did not get the credit she deserved. Walking across the bridge was really busy, windy, and astonishing.
With the busy traffic, streets, and crowds, New York has it's own subway system, wonderful Central Park, and the Empire State Building. Their subway system involves 21 interconnected subway routes that allow 1.763 billion citizens a visitors year to travel. Central Park is a green and beautiful get away space for stressful workers that want to walk, relax, picnic, socialize, or go to concerts. The park is 843 acres and 42 million people visit it each year. The Empire State Building has 102 floors in which 3.5 million people visit annually. You can see the amazing concrete jungle at night or during the day and still get a perfect view and picture you can treasure.

The famous, strong, and honorable General and President George Washington had to live somewhere. On a hill near the banks of the Potomac River, Washington’s beautiful and historical house lays. Inside his house there is a key that is hanging up inside a transparent box. The Key of Bastille was given to Washington by Marquis de Lafayette because they had a strong relationship. They both were in the same unit in the French army. Lafayette was the General and George Washington was a Colonel. At first Marquis presented the key to Thomas Paine but he thought of George more as a son so he decided to give it to him in the summer of 1790.

With wax figures from left to right, at Madam Tussaud's Wax figure Museum, the thirtieth president, Calvin Coolidge stood out to me. I learned so many things about him such as his presidential term was August 2, 1923 through March 4, 1929. When Coolidge was Vice President and Warren G. Harding passed away in 1923, he became the president. As the President he made it his mission to fix the economic problem that the Great Depression caused. After his term ended he did not seek a second term because of the stress he felt. Because he did not run again, he was given the nickname, “Silent Cal.”

Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island
In March 2006, in order to tribute the remembrance and to honor the 3,000 victims killed in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001, three architects worked together to build a memorial. Michael Arad, Peter Walker, and Daniel Libeskind made it their goal to continue to honor one of the largest losses on the United States' soil. Everyday the memorial caretakers place white roses signifying the victims birthday and when it's Veteran's Day they place yellow roses to honor the veterans we lost on that fatal day. When friends or family visit the memorial they usually will place a red rose or flag in their engraved name to honor their loved one. Each year the memorial receives approximately four million visitors.

The Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island was extraordinary and unbelievable. This statue was gift from the people of France as a symbol of freedom and democracy. Ellis Island's purpose from 1892 to 1924 was to process immigrants. More than twenty million immigrants came through Ellis Island. The island is 27.5 acres and at the southern tip of Manhattan, New York.

In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, there was one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War. This battle lasted four years in which 620,000 soldiers died. They were buried where they were shot or died and later moved to confederate cemeteries, if they were found. This battle inspired Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address." The outcome of this battle was won by the Northern side which allowed them to free slaves and ban slavery in every state.

Air and Space Museum
The Air and Space Museum was very interesting. One invention that caught my interest was the navigational satellite. It was developed in the mid 1960's because they need navigation and communication from ships and submarines. It works when the submarine establishes a position which makes it safer without surfacing and giving away it's location. Also the ships use it to tract it's location and contact other ships.

The Fourteenth Amendment was created to give legal rights to free slaves. One hundred years after this amendment Martin Luther King Jr. fought for equal rights in all states because blacks were not treated equally. He organized marches, political rallies, and held many speeches regarding equal rights for all. His actions led to the passage of the Civil Rights of 1964 which ended segregation in public places and banned discrimination. Unfortunately in 1968, Martin Luther was assassinated.

Eternal Flame
In Arlington, Virginia 22211, there is the huge, beautiful, and populated Arlington National Cemetery. There are over 400,000 buried people which included families of soldiers and soldiers. Since the Arlington National Cemetery was getting over occupied, they made regulations to be buried. They stated that the soldier had to be in the military, earn a medal of honor, and serve in Congress. At the cemetery “here rests in honored glory an American Soldier known but to God,” which is known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Many soldiers have attempted to become a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. If you are interested, you must have volunteered in the 3rd Regiment of the US Army, males have to be 5’10”, females have to be 5’8”, you have to fill out the lengthy information packet, have a clean financial history, sound family, and able to ignore distractions.

Dear Mom and Dad,
Thank you so much for letting me go on the D.C. trip. Dad, I appreciate that you sacrificed your time to take care of Chase while Mom was gone and providing me with the funds to go. Mom, I appreciate that you also sacrificed your time to come with me. Now that I have gone I continue to remember all of the memories and experiences I had there and I miss it so much. I am so proud I was able to learn and see our country's history and story about how so many people risked their lives to protect our freedoms and rights. I hope that someday I can send my child on their D.C. trip and hope that they will be proud to be an American too.
Love,
Ashley

An excellent example of honesty, intelligence, and equality would definitely be President Lincoln. He was someone who fought for equality and against slavery because he wanted what was best for his country. He steadily led our country into the Civil War to free the slaves. Throughout this time he fought in seven severe debates to make sure slavery stopped. On January 1, 1863 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and said, “that all person held as slaves... are, and henceforward shall be free.”

With the unique and astonishing marble and mosaic tiles, the United States Capitol was beautifully designed. Throughout the tour of the Capitol there is artwork and statues to ponder and glance at. One of the famous statues that catches everyone's’ eye is of the extraordinary man, Daniel Webster. When he was growing up his parents influenced him to become a lawyer. After getting a degree, he decided to go into politics and got accepted into the House of Representatives. About four years later, he was elected for the Senate and continued to fight in debates about the Doctrine of Nullification and state rights. These debates and the fact that he defied the odds and was the Secretary of State twice made him famous.

Jefferson Memorial Path
Thomas Jefferson suggested that there should be split between the church and state because of his belief and religious freedom. In his memorial there are four panels with words and his quotes that explain his reasoning. On the second panel he suggests separation by describing, "...No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship or ministry or otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief." By describing this statement he explains how worshiping another religion except his own, he will suffer and so will his belief. Jefferson believes that there should be separation because most pilgrims came here to get there religious freedom and he feels like there shouldn't be another country that forces a religion. The separation helped create a more beneficial and efficient government because it would protect the conditions of religious freedoms and liberty.
