Rachel McMillan Training Center

Margaret honored for her work by being made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1917 and a Companion of Honour in 1930.

Open Air Nursery

1917 the Deptford Nursery School was completed

McMillan's ideas on care and education of young children endorsed by Marie Montessori

Officially named the Rachel McMillan Open Air Nursery School

First Nursery

Rachel died earlier that year

1914 together they opened up open-air nursery

had students ranging from 18 months to 7 years old

Moving Back with Rachel

1899 undertook official medical checks of children in Bradford's elementary schools

was a prime mover in a campaign for schools to provide meals for needy children, 1906 Education Act

Became follower of Christian Socialism

Close friends with socialist leader Keir Hardie

Became a member of the Bradford Local School Board in 1894

Began undertaking unofficial medical inspections of local elementary schools with Dr. James Kerr

Both sisters attended Inverness High School

Scarlet Fever

Mother died in 1877

Rachel stayed in Invernesss while Maragret was sent away to be trained to become a governess

July of 1888 grandmother died and Rachel joined Margaret in London

Margaret left deaf at 4 years old

recovered hearing 10 years later

Both Died in 1865
