- Martin De León was born in Burgos, Nuevo Santander in the year 1765.
- His parents were Bernardo and María Galván De León
- Now having thousands of cattle, De León establishes the E and J brand.
- E and J stands for "Espíritu de Jesús."
- Espíritu de Jesús was the first registered brand in Texas.
- Martin marries Patricia de la Garza.
- Patricia was the daughter of General Felipe de la Garza.
- Felipe was the commandant of the Eastern Internal Provinces.
- On April 8, 1824, Martin asks the provincial delegation at San Fernando de Béxar if he can settle forty-one Mexican families on the lower Guadalupe.
- Martin was granted approval on April 13, 1824.
- He founded the town of Nuestra Señora Guadalupe de Jesús Victoria.

- Martin goes on a cattle drive to New Orleans.
- At this time, he starts thinking about settling a colony in that area.
- Martin joins the Fieles de Burgos regiment.
- During this period, he helped defend Fieles de Burgos against Indians in Nuevo Santandar.
- Martin De León contracts the cholera epidemic of 1833 and dies that same year.
- He was worth an estimated $500,000 dollars at the time of his death.
- Martin left behind his wife, four sons, and six daughters.
- Martin moves his family to Texas and establishes a ranch between Chiltipin Creek and the Aransas River.
- He stocks his new ranch with cattle he bought in Mexico.
- He fences off large areas to corral and domesticate mustangs.
