Pros and Cons

Pros and Cons of Devices in the Classrooms

Online Learning Disadvantages

Online Learning Advantages

  • The students have access to more information than just one textbook, they can use websites to teach them a different language or to find information for a project that they are doing. But the students can get easily distracted by the internet and their devices, making it difficult to pay attention.
  • It is more available to students with out the weight of all the textbooks being carried around. But the cost of putting these into schools can cost billions of dollars, technology is a good thing but it is not cheap

Online Setting Can Be More Beneficial to Others

  • Need for self discipline
  • Need to motivate
  • Time management
  • Potential for miss communication and misunderstanding

Myths and Fears About Online Learning

Fear!!

  • Working on computer skills
  • "Because students with Internet skills are usually eager to share their knowledge with others, they can help several different partners during the course of a semester" (Bennett, 1999).
  • Chat rooms can offer students a non threatening opportunity to be involved with classmates in a discussion.
  • Can be anywhere to do your coursework
  • Eliminates driving which saves on gas
  • Can take classes from distant schools
  • Ability to do classwork on their own schedules

Advantages of Classroom Learning

Some myths and fears have been associated with online learning:

  • Taking an online course is settling for lesser education
  • Online must not be for that person because they are feeling overwhelmed
  • Because they do not know their way around a computer, they can not do the course work
  • might feel like they are going at it alone
  • Online courses will not be respected by others
  • Direct access to the instructor during class
  • Interaction is immediate
  • Ask questions and participate in live discussion

Disadvantages of Classroom Learning

  • Meeting at a regularly scheduled times limits flexibility with work and other activities
  • Must be in class to get the learning experience and keep up with requirements
  • Students who struggle to focus may find classrooms distracting to their learning experience

Online Versus Traditional Learning

Because a lot of people have these fears, they are afraid to do online courses and it will probably hinder their degree in some way; it is important to remember that other people might be thinking the same thing or that others have issues with online courses, so you are not a lone. Also, if you do decide to take courses, you should explore your schools website and become familiar with where everything is located.

  • Conclusion
  • There is a lot more apps and websites that can be used to help with the online student still be able to learn and present in class.
  • Since today's students are more technology based, it can lead to students to try different ways to present to the class, making it more interesting for the student.
  • Instead of the teacher having to stop the class to remind them that a classroom is for learning, and online setting can still do what they need to get done and not have to be interrupted.

Many tools are accessible to us to use for out classes, either in the classroom or online. There are advantages and disadvantages for online and classroom learning but with the digital tools that are given to us, it is easier for us to use to do our homework in other places using different apps or websites with out carrying around all the textbook that comes with the lesson. It is more expensive to get the tools to be able to download the books or upgrading on different websites to get the full experience then what is given to us for free. There are negatives about digital tools but I still find the benefits of the the tools to outweigh the negatives.

Apps

Thesis

Here are a few examples of Apps that can be used to help benefit online and classroom students:

  • Prezi
  • Mindmeister
  • SonicPics

I find that digital tools to better than analog due to the accessibility, simplicity, and availability, even though there are many positives aspects of digital tools, there are still negatives, I still find the benefits to out weigh the negatives.
