Racism in To Kill a Mockingbird

Reason for Choosing My Topic

The book showed me that even the smallest little kid could be racist without even knowing it. In the book I didn't like the fact that people belittled the black people and got away with it.

The Main Problem

THE MEssage

The main problem in this book would be racism. There is a lot of parts that show where peple are racist and messed up.

“Too proud to fight, you nigger-lovin‘bastard?”

This is one of the quotes that demonstrated racism.

The message of the book would be:

Don't be racist or your luck will come back at you and hit you on your back.

Parts that showed Racism

Quotes Part

The Parts that showed racism was the Tom Robinson case. It was OBVIOUS that he didn't rape and beat Mayella, but they still chose her side of the story.

The other time was when Bob called Atticus that he was a nigger lovin' Bastard. That showed deep hate for the black people.

"I shut my eyes. Judge Taylor was polling the jury: “Guilty… guilty… guilty…

guilty…” I peeked at Jem: his hands were white from gripping the balcony rail,

and his shoulders jerked as if each “guilty” was a separate stab between them."

This was when Scout and Jem went to go see the case of Tom Robinson get solved.

Summary Of Book

Quotes Part

The book is about three kids having adventures. Throughout the book while they have their adventures they face problems and help people around in their community. The names of the main characters in the book are Scout, Jem, and Dill.

My Solution

"you nigger-lovin‘bastard?”-Bob Ewell. A quote that shows racism in the book

“Do you defend niggers, Atticus?”-Scout Finch. This was a quote that was racist but it wasn't intended to be racist.

“Nigger-lover"- Francis Hancock. This quote was intended to be racist towards Atticus defending black people.

The solution that I would propose for my problem would be to make the change start with us. Lets all not be racist and try to end it. We could spread that knowledge to people around us.

Conclusion

When we see racism we can stop it and wen have a better community that will lead to better world. This book is like a message, a message that wants us to end racism.
