Prior to 1991 Somalia tried to form a government called the Transitional Federal Government. TFG signed a Child Soldier Law in an effort to stop the use of children in their military. They also made laws restricting the ages in which a child can work. 15 or older in the fields, 16 or older in construction. As of today the Federal Government of Somalia have made no new laws prohibiting to child labor and does not enforce the laws that are set.
Before 2012 Somalia never had a central government to sort out problems and issues in the country. This lead to other groups to take in charge of Somalia. When the Somali Civil War started in 1991 the terrorist group called Al-Shabaab took over control of Somalia. They took control of the fiances which lead to 60 percent of Somalis to be under the poverty rate. Also to build their military they would take children from their homes.
Somalia is known as one of the worst countries in the world in the use of child labor. It is estimated that around 42 percent of Somali children between the ages of 5 to 14 are forced into working in brutal environments to either pay for their education or to support their families. Some just to survive.
