Language

Language, there isn't much for skateboarding. Since it is so widely spread around the world, there are just too many different cultures clashing into it to have certain language values. Because it originated from surfing, most of the skate boarding "talk" is near the same as surfing.

Skateboarders often use different slang terms to identify ramps and other things of this nature. This includes the kicker, fun box, ect...

Materialistic

One common materialistic item used during skateboarding is a backpack, for carrying equiptment.

Another usual item is a skate tool. This helps fix the skateboard in many different ways compact into one tool.

Hardware for the skateboard are also very important for holding the skateboard together.

Lastly, they need the skateboard...

Non-materialistic

One important non- materialistic thing probably most importantly would be family. Family is often very important among skateboarders.

Secondly, friends are also another very important part of skateboarding, to help push you to get better.

Other skateboarders can also be part of this as well. Meeting new people can help you improve your skateboarding abilities.

Lastly, there is sponshership. This is usually the goal of most skateboarders. This means you are usually paid by or given free equiptment from different skate companies for making films for their team.

What is skateboarding, and where did it begin?

The first manufactured skateboard was ordered by a Los Angeles surf shop. They became popular in that area and people called it "sidewalk surfing". They were very simple versions of the modern day skateboard, using simple wheels and pieces of wood just to roll around as to replicate surfing on the ground. Skateboarders widely began to spread from there, going all over the world. Eventually leading up to culture it has become today.

Symbols

  • In the skateboarding culture, there are not many actual "symbols" that represent certain things, but there are many symbols of skateboarding out there.
  • I- Although it may not always be the chosen brand, vans are usually a symbol of skateboarding.
  • II- A halfpipe ramp is also a symbol of vert, or ramp skating for skateboarders.
  • III- A handrail

Skateboarding is an action sport that is widely taking over the world. The exact origin is almost impossible to trace, but it is said skateboarding originated in the 1940's to 1950's when surfers in the area of California wanted something to do when they could not surf.
