His Return To South Korea

After the second war was over, Rhee returned to Korea.

Over the next two years, he became the main right-wing

politician of Korea. In 1947 he got the unofficial support of

the United States Government. Then, in 1948, Syngman Rhee

was elected to be the president of South Korea. He won.

Who he was..

  • Syngman Rhee was born on March 26, 1875 in Korea.
  • In 1897 Rhee was put into jail in the Yi Dynasty for protesting for a monarchy. He was then released in 1905.
  • In the USA he got a ph.D from Princeton University in international law.
  • Korea elected Rhee to be their provisional (temporary) president, in 1919.
  • In 1960, he moved from Korea, to Hawaii
  • Syngman Rhee died July 19th 1965
