Why were they made?

Dunkley realized if you block out the two points in a persons peripheral view it will cause a regular picture to appear 3 dimensional.
How were they made?
3D glasses have two different colored lenses. When you wear the glasses watching a "3D" movie we are seeing different images and it tricks the brain that it is in 3D.
