Principles of injury Prevention

So start these self-care steps the minute you've sustained an injury:

Treat Simple

Injuries

Rest : Cut back on normal daily activities and avoid putting weight on the injured body part.

Ice: Use an ice pack on the injured area for 10 to 20 minutes at a time, anywhere from four to eight times per day.

1. Skip the heroics.

2. Don't wait. To see the doctor, that is.

3. Begin RICE IMMIDIATELY.

~(an acronym for rest, ice,

compression, and elevation) could mean more pain and swelling and a longer recovery period.

What is Principles of Injury Prevention

Compression: To reduce pain and swelling, wrap the injured area with an elastic bandage or other doctor

Elevation: Use pillows or blankets to raise the injured limb above the level of the heart to minimize swelling.

REPORTING IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Cuts, Scrapes (abrasions),

and

puncture wounds facts

• Washing a cut or scrape with soap, and water and keeping it clean and dry is all that is required to care for most wounds.

• Cleaning the wound with hydrogen peroxide and iodine is acceptable initially, but can delay healing and should be avoided long-term.

• Apply antibiotic ointment and keep the wound covered.

• Seek medical care within 6 hours if the bleeding does not stop, as the wound might need stitches.

• A delay can increase the rate of wound infection.

• Any puncture wound through tennis shoes or sneakers has a high risk of infection and should be seen by a doctor.

An important role for the sports medicine practitioner is to minimize activity-related injury, that is, to improve the benefit: risk ratio associated with physical activity and sport. There have been many advance in the field of sports injury prevention in the past decade.
