The meanings of the terms RACE, NATIONALITY, and ETHNICITY are often confused with one another.
Imagine both your parents are from Oakland.
You all live in Oakland now.

The other two terms are related to race, but they DO NOT mean the same things.

Ethnicity sometimes includes someone’s race and nationality, but all of those words have different meanings.
Someone’s ethnicity is determined by the ways a culture connects people to one another.
We learned that someone’s RACE is determined by their membership in a group of people who share distinct physical traits that have been passed on to them by their ancestors.
