The Beginning

Bachelors Degree from Gallaudet College in 1949.

1957 received his Masters in Education from University of Hartford.

1976 acquired his E.d.D in Instructional Technology also from Hartford.

First professional Deaf person to work at the US Office of Education and head a major there.

"father of captioning" because he pushed for the deaf to have it.

At first TV networks and electronic equipment manufacturers were reluctant to have it because they didnt want it embedded.

At the forefront of every research program towards captioning.

The first to envision the idea of captioning being closed.

Chief of Media Services and Captioned Films for the Deaf 1972-1988.

Responsible for getting Hollywood films to add caption to them and then later distribute them to the deaf.

Born on March 6, 1927 in Hartford Connecticut.

Became Deaf at the age of 5 from measles and scarlet fever.

First went to public schools then went to American School for the Deaf.

Graduated in 1943 at age 16.

Teaching

The End

First taught at Texas School for the Deaf.

Later taught and was an administrator at West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.

Retired January of 1988.

Died the following year March 22, 1989.
