Sick Building Syndrome

  • Having plants in the workplace can prevent Sick Building syndrome
  • Sick building syndrome is an illness that occurs when there are no plants in a building
  • Symptoms are a blocked or stuffy nose and dry itchy skin, but symptoms go away once you leave the building
  • The best remedy for this is to put plants in the workplace

Physiological Effect of Plants

  • Physiologically, plants also have a positive effect on us
  • EEG, electrocardiograms, oxyhemoglobin saturation, fingertip blood flow, skin resistance and respiration rate was tested in a study to determine how it affects us
  • The EEG which shows human neural activity showed that people had higher alpha activity, electrocardiograms shows a decrease in heart rate and high oxyhemoglobin saturation
