Famous for

Mary Mallon was convicted by George Soper, a sanitary director who's main job was tracking down the sources of outbreak in big cities, of being a carrier of Typhoid bacillus, a bacteria that causes Typhoid fever. Typhoid fever was a serious and sometimes deadly disease back in Mary's time and she was said to have infected 51 people, 3 of which died. Mary was also the first person in the United States to have been an asymptomatic carrier of the disease, meaning she didn't display any of the symptoms of Typhoid fever.
