Research Question: What were the main clauses of the "Treaty Of Versailles" that aided Hitler's rise into power?

Fuhrer (1934)

Germany was forced to take full responsibilty for starting the war and pay reparations of 132 Billion Marks

They knew that it wasn't just Germany that started the war, and that they shouldn't have to take all the blame

They were angered by the amount of

money Germany had to pay and they

felt it was an unfair amount

Hitler used the anger that was inside of almost every German to turn them against the Weimar Republic and blame the "November Criminals" for signing the TOV.

Hitler knew this would turn the people against the current Government.

The German Army was restricted to 100,000 men, Germany was not allowed to have an Air Force, Navy was restricted to Six Battleships, Germany was allowed no Submarines and the Rhineland was demilitarised.

It angered the people because they felt that Germany should be able to have an army of any number if they want. The German people had pride in their army and they felt security knowing there was one to protect them.

Hitler promises the people to rebuild the army and to have a strong military force. One of the first things Hitlder does is train more troops and increase the size of the military.

Not being allowed to be in the League Of

Nations took away almost all of their overseas power.

The people felt they should have a say in

what decisions the League Of Nations made.

Often in Hitler's speeches, he would disregard the clauses of the treaty and made promises to the people that disobeyed the articles.

Hitler promised the people that he would disobey the rules of the Treaty if he was in power and Germany would ultimately find a way to be treated fairly by other nations

Germany's land was taken

away from them.

Alsace-Lorraine was given

back to France

The Saar was given to France for 15 years

Rich farmlands of the Posen and Polish Corridor between Germany and East Prussia were given to Poland.

All Germany's colonies taken and given to France and Britain as 'mandates'

German people were outraged that their land was taken away from them, especially after they had to pay a huge amount of reparations. They felt pride in their nation and the land they had previously conquered and so they felt it was unfair it should be taken away from them.

Hitler convinced the people that if he rose into power he would get Germany's land back and disobey the rules of the Treaty.
