Many settlers felt that in order to expand west the "indians" as they called them had to be removed. They referred to them as barbaric, uncivilized creatures who need to be taught the correct way to live. Indian removal was Jackson's way of peacefully trying to get the Indian tribes east of the Mississippi to trade their land for land in the west, however few of the tribes actually made the trade

New inventions created new jobs for women in the workforce.
Women who had previously been confined to the household, were now working. Women romanticized the idea of having a job and being independent.
