Sewing Machines

The telephone was invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. In the early twentieth century, Candlestick Phones were used. Then, the Rotary Phone was invented. In the 1960s, the Push-button Phone became popular. The Portable Phone was invented in the 1980s. Today, people still use portable phones.

The first sewing machine was invented in 1790. The inventor was Thomas Saint. However, the sewing machine wasn't successful. But in 1845, Elias Howe had made a working sewing machine. A seamstress could sew an apron in one hour and twenty-six minutes, but the sewing machine could sew an apron in nine minutes. Howe went out of business in the 1880s. Isaac Singer's machine made it big and is still a famous machine today.

Television was first invented on September 7, 1927. Several companies such as NBC or CBS started doing fifteen minute broadcasts. At first, television was very hard to see. People could barely make out who was reporting. Television at first was black and white. In 1951, television was first in color. Today, 1.6 billion people in the world own a T.V.

In 1937, computers were first invented. In 1941, a computer was made that could calculate twenty-nine equations simultaneously. In 1971, a computer disc was invented to share data among computers. In 1976, the company "Apple" was invented. In present day, 66% percent of Americans own a computer.
