Film was also a popular new medium because it had a far different tone from contemporary literature. Literature at the time was marked with being grim since most of it stemmed from the "lost generation" of writers. Motion pictures were far more optimistic and happy, thus contributing to their resounding success.

Psychological Effect on Children

Since film was so popular it was able to teach the younger generations valuable lessons that they otherwise wouldn't learn in life. Children were taught of the American dream and rags to riches stories, and in these lessons Children were inspired to continue being optimistic despite their bleak lives.

  • The effects of these lessons are clearly seen with the extreme socioeconomic success that the younger generation had when they became adults

The golden age of Hollywood grossed millions despite severe economic limitations. This extreme amount of money is indicative of the general wish to escape the drudgery of everyday life.

The Hollywood Lifestyle was an idea craved by the general public. Move stars were seen as deities and were nearly worshiped by moviegoers, who not only loved the actors themselves but their glamorous lifestyle as well. Since the lifestyle was so revered many moved west to try to enter it, which meant that production companies found ample amounts of people willing to work on their newest projects.
