Woa what?...
Compounds - a compound is when 2,
as in TWO or more elements are BONDED
together. not Mixed or Grouped but BONDED
together.
Oh yea, by the way, a COMPOUND is also
a PURE SUBSTANCE. That is because it is all
ONE solid piece. But WAIT... there are some cases
like this one...
OK.. last but not least, are MIXTURES
a MIXTURE - is, well in my own words...
a random group of junk. If you cant find any
sort of pattern in the atoms or bonds... then it
is probably going to be a MIXTURE.
Mixtures are actually NOT PURE SUBSTANCES.
they are a MIXTURE of them. There can be bonds and
the same elements or atoms in a mixture, but they cant all
be BONDED the same way. Confusing?, try some of
these out.
if you guessed a MIXTURE. Your
absolutely CORRECT. There are no
BONDS here, and there are different
atoms. All different atoms = not an ELEMENT
NO BONDS = not a COMPOUND
Its a MIXTURE. There are BONDS
in this example. There are also atoms
that are similar. The atoms are NOT all
Bonded the same way though, they are
bonded DIFFERENTLY. Therefore this
ISN'T a COMPOUND or an ELEMENT.
It is though, how i worded it earlier, a
mixture of junk.
Terms like...

Bonded
and Not Bonded

Unbonded - is when atoms are NOT "stuck" together.
when atoms are not bonded, they are just friends, not brothers.
So... Unbonded atoms are not "in if for life" there in it for a couple minutes.
Bonded - means that atoms are "stuck" together.
that they cant be seperated, very easily that is. when
something is bonded, it isn't mixed or thrown in, its...
"in it for life"

Cl
Do you know what this is?. Well I dont.
What i do know though is that it has 3 different
types of atoms and they are all BONDED. So
what do you think this is?
thats right, a COMPOUND.
Now... on to Elements
Elements - are also considered a "Pure Substance". An element
is only 1 thing. not 2 or 4 or eleventeen... just ONE. Elements can be found on the periodic table of "elements", what a coincidence right? Elements doesnt mean there is only ONE atom though. so dont get that part messed up...

H2O.. or water, is a compound.
Since these atoms are BONDED
and there are TWO KINDS, it is a
COMPOUND.

Bonded
Sooo... what do you think this is?
Another COMPOUND. just because they
aren't ALL BONDED, doesn't mean anything.
they are all the same atom groups BONDED together.
There is just 3 of them.
H
this represents a hydrogen atom. there is
ONE of them, so this is an Element.

Unbonded
Got it?...
Good :)
H
Now there are 3. But it is still an element.
They are also NOT BONDED now... remember that?
they are all still hydrogen though so it is still...
AN ELEMENT
H
Now there are 2 hydrogen atoms. not ONE, but...
It is still and ELEMENT. As you can see, they are
BONDED. Remember that? Just because there are 2
atoms now, doesnt mean it isnt an element anymore.
they are still the same atom, so they are the same thing.

So... what is it?, make your
guess
