Symbolism in Persepolis

In literature, symbolism is-

An object used to provide meaning to the writing beyond what is essentially being described.

 repetitively using the same object to communicate a deeper meaning or use distinctions of the same object to produce an overarching mood or feeling

used in literature to provide imagery and detail to an object. 

Symbolism can make a story more interesting, and provide intriguing details to the reader.

Just as the American bald eagle is often thought of as the symbol of the United States, symbols used in literature are objects used to represent other things or ideas.

Red as blood and gushing from deep in the ground, Vine symbolises life and strength.

It is also the symbol of friendship and love.

The Cigarette,” “The Passport,” and “Kim Wilde” are three chapters that explore issues of Western cultural influence in a country whose regime seeks to ban all such influence

Marjane makes her boldest statement of rebellion by smoking a cigarette that she had stolen from her uncle. She equates the smoking of the cigarette as a small act of rebellion against her mother and that she has

grown up.

In the book the main focus is on swan which connotes:

The left side has tools in the background and Marji is shown in normal clothes which symbolizes a hard working women. The right side shows Marji draped in a veil with an artistic drawing in the background which symbolizes religion and how it might conflict with her ideology.
