Best Work

David Diaz is a well known artist children's book illustrator. According to Diaz himself, he was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. At an early and impressionable age, Diaz found inspiration and a passion for drawing/illustrating during an English/Language Arts activity, (NCCIL). Diaz mentions that his wife taught him how as a classmate.

Diaz did not attend an art school (Ft. Lauderdale Art Institute) until after his mother's early and unexpected death when he was 16 years old (NCCIL). However, art was always there for him. In addition, NCCIL states that he was actively and successfully involved in many different art competitions, suggested by his teacher.

Diaz currently lives in Carlsbad, CA, with his wife and still has a passion for illustrating books for children's learning and entertainment, (Diaz).

Build a Burrito by Denise Vega

Of Diaz's best, I thought this had a strong tie to counting and cultural tie to the curriculum. Students could create their own burritos or take it a step forward by bringing in their own favorite home meal with the recipe attached. (Orignial - Lauren Slay)

December by Eve Bunting

I am taking another class about how to create a positive classroom. I think this would be a great way to integrate the idea of Social Injustices (Dunkerly-Bean at ODU) and serive programs to help students understand struggles people face day to day (Salend).

Just One Flick of a Finger by Marybeth Lorbiecki

Bullies are becoming more and more popular or a threat in the nation. I think this would be an acceptable ice breaker for students learning about bullying, what it means and what they can do about it I would allow various forms of project presentations that interest the students (plays/skits, prezi, speech, etc.) (Original - Lauren Slay)
