Ulrich Zwingli

Zwingli, the leader of the Protestants, got killed and chopped up and burned. The civil war was an early indication of would happen in the 16th century.

Started the Zwinglian

Reformation which eliminated monasticism, pilgrimages, and celergial celibicy. Their goal was to completely abolish the Catholic influence.

The Swiss Civil War took place from November 3rd, 1847 to November 29th, 1847.

Results of war

The Swiss Catholics, known as Sonderbunds, were defeated and dissolved. The leaders of the Catholic cities were replaced with favorable protestant leaders, and the foundation for the Red Cross was made.

Impact on Europe

Switzerland became a federal state, with a constitution much like that of America. The Society of Jesus was banned, and Swiss' neutral stance was formed.
