Mock Code Grey Scenarios

Move Day

Day in the Life Scenarios will build confidence and create learned lessons for clinical staff and leader prior to the opening of a new hospital facility.

Code Grey situations will now have been practiced and Code Grey responders will have the confidence and preparation to efficiently handle a combative person within the new hospital facility.

The desired outcome of this project was to prepare and equip Code Grey responders within a new hospital facility.

What is a Code Grey?

Overhead code that alerts hospital staff, patients and visitors of a combative patient with no obvious weapon.

Day In The Life

University Medical Center Brackenridge will be moving into a new facility in May of 2017 named Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin, where it will be the new location the only Adult Level I Trauma Center within our 11-county region and a home of a new teaching facility.

Prior to the facility opening to the public, it is important that clinical staff be prepared to deliver safe care within the new hospital.

Day in the Life is a simulation based exercised designed to prepare clinical staff to deliver care safely in a new hospital facility.

Scenarios are created individualized for each code situation and provides clinical staff and leaders an opportunity to identify issues and training opportunities that have not been recognized or resolved.

Allows promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration among departments

Workplace violence has become a problem in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health defines workplace violence as "Violence acts, including physical assaults, threats of assault, directed towards persons at work on duty."

Workplace violence can be reduced through:

  • Culture of Safety
  • Early Recognition

During the opening of new hospital facility is is important for clinical staff members to be prepared and educated on how to call and manage a code grey situation, prior to opening the doors to the public.
