Using coal to make electricity in its simplest form:
Coal > Burn Coal > Heat water > Steam > Steam turns turbine > Rotary Movement of Turbine creates electricity.
Coal is one of the most used fossil fuels used for generation of electricity and in 2010 it accounted for more than 2/3 of all of China's electricity production. Coal is made into electricity via a process which we will explain shortly.
The coal is converted into electricity and powers millions of electronic devices daily, including the computer, projector and interactive whiteborad this is running on.
•Easily combustible, and burns at low temperatures, making coal-fired boilers cheaper and simpler than many others
•Widely and easily distributed all over the world;
•Relatively inexpensive to buy on the open market due to large reserves and easy accessibility
•Good availability for much of the world (i.e. coal is found many more places than other fossil fuels)
•Most coal is rather simple to mine, making it by far the least expensive fossil fuel to actually obtain
•It will eventually run out.
•It cannot be recycled.
•Prices for all fossil fuels are rising, especially if the real cost of their carbon is included.
•It is Non-renewable and fast depleting
•Coal storage cost is high especially if needed to be kept safe for in a few years time.
Using coal to make electricity is very easy, but the only difficult part is mining the coal and even that isnt much of a challenge.
A vast majority of our electricity is produced by coal and for china it is over 2/3.
Thanks for listening, we hoped you enjoyed it and that you now know more about converting coal electricity than you did before!
