When & Where?

1885-1908 in the Congo, Africa.

Why?

He needed workers to help process rubber for her forced the Congolese people to do it, causing millions of deaths.

The Belgians have began to cut the hands off of some people people as a way of torture.

Some Congolese women and young girls were raped. Also, King Leopold II was starting forced labor to help with the production in rubber factories. Many people were often kept on chains as slaves.

The Belgians started to see the

Congolese people as a totally different, and lesser minority. Even though there were more of them than there were Belgians. They started to lose some of their freedom.

The neighboring country Rwanda was

blamed because the Congo believed

that they were helping collect supplies

to use against the Congo.

Massacre of 10 million africans in the Congo. That was over half of all Congolese people. The country is still struggling with poverty and war over 100 years later.

Eugenie's Story

Eugenie was only 17 at the time when she was raped in her own village, in front of her father. She was hurt psychologically from the incident.
